TAILGATING AT THE GROVE
Located in the center of campus, this 10-acre grassy plot of land that
is heavily shaded by oak trees, serves as the official Ole Miss
tailgating location. This gathering place for alumni and friends is
praised for its tremendous atmosphere that includes a warm mix of social
activity and small-town warmth.
Former Ole Miss recruiting coordinator and current collegiate sports
radio host, Max Howell said it one of college football's special places.
"If you've never been to a game at Ole Miss, you've got to walk through
The Grove. You can't comprehend the excitement until you've been there.
The players walk through before the game and get to see some of the
special things that are associated with the environment that surrounds
college football."
This tradition began when Billy Brewer became the school's head coach in
1983. Brewer, a former Rebel player in the 1950s, wanted his teams to
witness the atmosphere and pageantry Ole Miss fans enjoyed in The Grove.
HOTTY TODDY IS ONE HECK OF A REBEL YELL
With Ole Miss producing a great number of doctors, lawyers and
legislators within the Magnolia State, you’ll have to excuse the Rebel
faithful for drifting towards cockiness from time to time. Whether it’s
a feeling of being elite or just an overwhelming feeling of school
spirit, Ole Miss’ “Hotty Toddy” chant leaves quite an impression.
“Hotty Toddy gosh almighty,
who in the Hell are we?
Hey! Flim flam bim bam
Ole Miss by damn!!!”
Ole Miss faithful love to break out
the Ole Miss
Merchandise for Saturday afternoon in the grove. Family and friends
love to get togeather in Oxford to support the Rebels.
